Mongolia brings to mind yaks and the Gobi desert, not to mention Ghengis Khan and the Mogul Empire. But it was also the core challenge of the Silk Route from many centuries ago.

It remains so today. It is remote. There are few roads. It remains a challenge. That said the scenery is Namibia on steroids. The desert is mystical but harsh. The people are charming.

From time to time (every 2 or 3 years typically) we have a crack at a new challenge. Mongolia would appear to be next on the list.

We will cross from West to East. We will then cross over into China and finish in Beijing.

We will have a small collection of vehicles to drive. Two to a car.

There will be three 1929 Bentley 4.5litres. One each for me Sam and George. But we will be happy to rotate a bit. There will be three Grenadiers. There will be two Series One Landrovers. 1948 (no1) and a 1958.

The journey will split into two parts with a 3 day break in the middle. The first section is 14 days. The second 7 days. The dates roughly are 1st June and 15th June for the start of these  two sections. Total mileage around 5000km.

Accommodation will be the best in town. There may be some towns however that haven’t got any. Actually most towns. So we will have tented camps with the finest in personalised Gers.
